Do you mean certain messages within a topic? Wouldn't that confuse people?

That is correct.


Wouldn't that confuse people?
Yes it would but for some reason that is the path my client wants to take.

But I am thinking about archiving a topic and creating an addition version as an alternative.

You can "split" topics directly into an archive forum. However, it will be a manual process. No automated method is currently available.
