Hi, Ilia.
We (my organization) are going to use a 2.6.12 version of fudforum.
We are still using since july 2003 the 2.3.8 version for internal use (a success Smile )

Now we are testing 2.6.12 for a wider use.
Our tests show a problem with categories display that
Quota:

Bug in Subcategories http://fudforum.org/forum/index.php?t=tree&th=4770&
Wrong Forum positioning? http://fudforum.org/forum/index.php?t=msg&th=4888&st
Error deleting categories http://fudforum.org/forum/index.php?t=msg&th=4710&st

and
Quota:

index.php.t cat.inc file patches

didn't solve.

Our test platform is:
RHEL AS 3
apache 2.0.46
mysql 3.23.58
php 4.3.2

On a clean install of 2.6.12 (with the only change of Global Anonymous and Global Registered mask: everything N)

Exclamation Any registered user can see some categories he has no right/reason to see (no access rights to forum inside them)
To give an idea:

STEP 1
Arrow existing category order:
CAT_1_USER_NOT (user must not see)
CAT_2_USER_YES (user must see)
CAT_3_USER_NOT (user must not see)

Shocked what user see:
CAT_1_USER_NOT (and cannot see anything in it)
CAT_2_USER_YES (and see his forum).
He does not see CAT_3_USER_NOT at all

STEP 2
Arrow if I move the category order:
CAT_2_USER_YES
CAT_1_USER_NOT
CAT_3_USER_NOT

Shocked what user see:
CAT_2_USER_YES (the OK condition)

STEP 3
Arrow if I move in the category order:
CAT_1_USER_NOT
CAT_3_USER_NOT
CAT_2_USER_YES

Shocked what user see:
CAT_1_USER_NOT (and cannot see anything in it)
CAT_3_USER_NOT (and cannot see anything in it)
CAT_2_USER_YES (and see his forum)

Any suggestion?

1st of all upgrade to FUDforum 2.6.13, it integrates all the category structure fixes so far and will ensure you do in fact have all of them.
If you still experience category problems after an upgrade, please provide detailed steps on how to replicate the problem (or better yet SQL dump of forum & category tables).

Hi there,
we just update the forum from version 2.6.12 to version 2.6.13RC1, but the problem we mentioned is still there, we also tried to sort it out with a brand new install of 2.6.13RC1 version, but yet no success and the problem is still there.

So let's state some important things:
Test Category and Test Forum (that the install creates) haven't been modified
we switched off Global Access and Global Register (all set to N)
we created a new category "pippo" with a new forum inside named "clarabella", with all permissions set to I:N.

if the new category "pippo" is located ABOVE Test Category:
- all users (registered or anonymous) SEE both Test Category and "pippo"
- clicking on category "pippo" forum "clarabella" isn't displayed at all and this is right.

If the new category "pippo" is located UNDER Test category:
- all users (registered and anonymous) ONLY SEE Test Category

we expect that locating the forum (and category), under or above another category,
doesn't influence what you can see and reach.
hope i've been much more clear this time and thanx for the help.
