I have a fud 2.7.5. now my registar has been so good for me to completely ruin my domain.

Situation now is that I have to fix my whole site and forum.

Now as it is a big mess anyway I was wondering if it would be possible to install the latest fudforum version in combination with the old DB and how that works...

Is it as simple as downloading the last version and update or do I have to install all the versions in between?
And what is the succes rate?

The success rate depends on what happened and what you've lost. Some notes:

1) You need to backup & restore to the same version as indicated in the documentation.

2) Messages are not necessarily stored in the DB, but may be in files (depending on how you configured it). So, be careful!

3) When done, please upgrade to FUDforum 3.0.0 (no intermediate steps required).

If you haven't lost anything the success rate should be 100%. If you run out of options, you may want to consider services as a last resort.

ok in this case, are you able to recover the forum if
-there are messages and attachments in files all on 04.2010
-there is no forum.db.php from 04.2010 but there is a .fud.gz backup from 01.2010

and how much is it?

forum.db.php is the database (you are using SQLite).
If you've lost it, you will have to recover from a prior backup.
So, you should be able to get the forum back to 01.2010 from the *.fud.gz backup file.

yes, thanks for your reply, i discovered that the backup file was just gzipped concatenation (tar-like) of files, so i just opened it with notepad and copied the first file, which is sqlite database, into a new document.
now everything works, great.

thanks for answering, upgrade went fine. the only thing is that few attachments and messages are missing from the new database, but are present as files.
is there a way to unpack the .atch files to get the files out?

Aren't they in the backup file? If so, you can extract them like you've extracted the database SQL.
