FUD Install error. :-( [message #161688]

Hi, I get the following error when trying to install FUD.

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@mydomain and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Hosting Server at mydomain Port 80

Does anyone here have any idea what might be wrong and how I can fix it please ?

The above resulted from clicking on the "install.php" file when viewing it in my web browser. I had made the folder permissions 777.

It doesn't look like a FUDforum problem.

It does indeed help, the webserver is refusing to execute any PHP script in that directory because -

I had used WS FTP and followed the instructions at..

http://cvs.prohost.org/index.php/Installation

which says..

"Changing permissions with WS_FTP:

* Right click on the directory
* Choose the chmod UNIX option
* In the dialog that appeared check all the checkboxes
* Press OK "

After your comment I have now changed things to 0755. It still doesn't install, but I no longer get the previous error. Thank you.

I have the same HTTP 500 error. But I don't have anything added to my error_log.

First I had this error:

[13-Aug-2010 18:14:33] PHP Parse error:  syntax error, unexpected '?' in /home/username/public_html/domain-name.net/!forum/install.php on line 1

And this remains the only line in error log even though I have HTTP 500 error instead after changing the permission of install.php to 777...

Employing the workaround from FAQ (php_flag detect_unicode off) did not change anything...

The forum is being installed to third-level domain root. The actual folder for it has the 755 permission... Changing to 777 also gives no changes.

Help please?

Also, can't I just download and unzip the ready files? I think before when I was using FUDforum this was possible...

Oh no, I do have something in home domain error-log!

Oh damn, sorry! Now after I deleted the .htaccess I have the same as previous person:

When I changed the install.php permissions to 755 as instructed above, I got again:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '?' in /home/username/public_html/domain-name.net/!forum/install.php on line 1

And of course after I've put the .htaccess back with this line:

php_flag detect_unicode off

I got the HTTP 500 error again and same as described above in error log:

So what's the correct syntax for that command or what else can I do? It's a shared Unix hosting, I can't control the PHP configuration.

The php_info for my server says regarding the above:

detect_unicode	On

Why don't you just give files to unzip without the self-unpacking installer??? I think it should be easier!

Hosts that is using phpexec cannot specify php settings via .htaccess.

You will have to change this setting in your php.ini file or ask your hosting provider to do it for you.

This is not an option. FUD forum installation was working before on the same hosting (a few years back version 2.6 or something). Come on, you can't be serious about that? There's got to be another way to install it, please! I really don't want to learn another software Sad

It will take you less than a minute to add the setting to your php.ini file. It's really no big deal.

This "bad" default was probably introduced with a PHP upgrade. The latest PHP versions should just work without any special settings.

I'm not afraid of difficulty but it's a shared hosting, so the provider chooses what they set for all users for their own reasons, and it won't be changed just for me if it's part of their policy... But I asked, just in case, we'll see. So far they've asked for me to send them the install script, so it does not look like they're gonna run to deactivate the detect_unicode, as much as I thought. This is a Russian hoster, so their users (including me) do need Unicode...

You can re-enable it after installing FUDforum. Not that it will make a difference, all your sites will remain 100% unicode enabled, even with this setting disabled. See the PHP documentation: detect_unicode is deprecated will be removed in the future!

OK, I passed that to my hosters, who actually managed to install it somehow but admin panel still doesn't work (looks like globals.php is missing). They've asked me to wait, they will familiarize with your forum. I don't like not knowing what somebody else does at my site, but not that I have a choice in this situation. Thank you for now.

But seriously, is there no way to deploy ready files and then set up the needed data, instead of running install.php?

I'm sure it's possible. Someone just need to piece it together. The main problems to overcome would be:

1. FUDforum doesn't put all its files in the web directory. You can still do it, but it would be less secure!

2. FUDforum creates symlinks to its GLOBALS.php file. A workaround is available for systems that doesn't allow symlinks that can be used (see install.php).

Best of luck with your forum and let me know if you would like to work on an alternate installer.

I started looking at other forums but they just don't have what I need.

Therefore I will persist to bug you with helping me to install it somehow, if you will, PLEASE!

I'm not a big helper in making an installer but I could be testing.

What I'm desperately looking for now is manual installation. (Because I really need that forum up and running yesterday) Therefore I have 3 questions:

1) How can I get current files separately?
2) What folders do I have to put where outside web dir?
3) I have no idea about symlinks but I certainly don't have any shell access if that's required (or how do I learn if allowed? and if not what is the workaround?)

I imagine I could then edit manually the CONFIG to enter all my data, I hope! (although explanations always help)

Should it not be forked as a new theme?

You really shouldn't get unicode detection issues with FUDforum 3.0.2. Please use the latest release.
