Not sure if anyone really reads this forum any more, but here goes anyway!

Is there a simple way to convert the entire forum and database to use a character set other than UTF-8?

In older versions, there was an option in the admin control panel to convert the database, but this is absent from the current release.

Not really, we've standardized on UTF8 like most other forum packages.
Why would you want to convert it to anything else?

We use FUDforum primarily as a Web-based NNTP client, which is made possible by its excellent NNTP integration. Most messages are imported from NNTP, where UTF-8 encoding is very rare. Nearly all NNTP posts on our newsgroups are Windows-1252 encoded.

It would work better if FUDforum examined the Content-Type header field and translated the posts appropriately on import, but it doesn't seem to do this.
