Hi there. Just installed this and used the phpbb migration script, and all I can say is wow!

I wanted to ask if there were any plans to allow SSL secured pages for login, registration, login and settings areas? I can enable whole site easy enough, but this would mean a performance hit.

There are no plans to do that, however it is something you can do very easily with just a few code changes on your setup.
