when i call install.php i just get a blank page.
no error messages are displayed or written to the error log.
memory limit is set to 16M.
i'm running a self-compiled php 5.1.1 as apache2 module on debian Sarge. same results with an fcgi-binary.

Have you checked the Apache error log as well?

there are no messages regarding install.php in the Apache error log. i verified that with a short script that results in an error and it's in the log files.

Are you using zlib compressed install or a non-compressed one?

Did you chmod the file 666 or 777? Can PHP run files with those permissions aside from install.php?

the whole dir has 775 afair, can't check that from where i am now. it's owned by the webserver user. uninstall.php runs fine.
i will try build php with debug enabled when i get home.

well, after some tests and removing the --enable-sys* from and adding --enable-memory-limit to the ./configure line it seems to work. but only with seperate install.php and fudforum_archive from cvs. had to remove the first comment from install.php though. something wrong with my php install?

there were no error messages and output with the stock installers (zlib and non-zlib)
the installer shouldn't behave like that, i think.
btw, no problems with other scripts.

I've tried the installer on my test system with PHP 5.1.1 and it works without any errors.

I get this problem too in Freebsd 5.4/6.0 +php5+Zend, I ever think it is the Zend result in.but it seems not

well... finally found what the issue was with the install.php.
seems like php5.1.1 configured with '--enable-zend-multibyte' doesn't like the install.php. i removed that and the install.php runs just fine.

There was a bug with --enable-zend-multibyte and HALT in 5.1.X release bit it has since been fixed in CVS, 5.1.1 should've worked fine, but I'll investigate further.
