I am entirely, morbidly curious as to what this group is really all about. Every post I have read in here seems to be about richard or from richard. Is there any actual PHP discussion, or is this a dead board relegated to richard-bashing?
And another question: why does richard keep coming back here? I think I smell some masochism, woof.

That makes more sense. Given richard's record in this NG I wouldn't take
it for granted to understand the existing "application" in 45 minutes
(or at least the relevant parts of it).

There's some PHP discussion that goes on here. Not as much as there
used to be - I think most people have gone to web forums.
And if you look back at some of richard's posts, you'll understand.

I think its is handy when discussing obscure elements of PHP, but
realistically most people achieve a level of comfort with it fairly quickly.
richard is the exception that proves the rule.
In 5 years he hasn't actually written a working program

Hah, woof yourself. This could be a useful ng but it suffers from what
every ng suffers from: lack of ultimate control. From time to time we
also suffer from the ministrations of PointyHead, which I'm sure puts
off a lots of less experienced people who may have genuine questions.
However he mostly bothers the javascript ng, where he spends his time
teaching us how to spell javascript and counting the angels on
pinheads.
Me, I've subscribed to the PHP Users mailing list, which is much more
sedate and useful, as things stand.

He is a boor. He can't code and keeps coming back with the same
tommy-rot. Something doesn't work and he never spends any time asking
himself "What simple errors do I keep making? Have I made one of those
this time?" and so on. And he never thanks anyone for the actual help
they give.

Hi Jenna and welcome,
When I first cut my teeth in PHP and MySQL a couple of years agoI got a
lot of very good advice here and in c.d.m., often from the same people in
the two groups IYSWIM.
My experience is that if you
1. Try to do it yourself and explain what you are trying to achieve and
what errors you get and
2. Take the advice and learn from it
then people in this group and c.d.m. are very helpful.
Unfortunately Richard is pretty good (mostly) at 1. and very poor (always)
at 2.
'Mr. Stuckle' was one of the most courteous and helpful to this learner
and I publicly thank him yet again.
