I upgraded to the latest version and now, when I go into the admin area and click "Category Manager" I get the following error,

Quote:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 72 bytes) in /home8/mastert4/public_html/elliaison/forum/adm/admcat.php on line 120
Any ideas?

Thanks for your time!!!

Please try to do a "Forum Consistency" check on your forum to see if it will help.

PS: What version of FUDforum are you using and how many categories do you have?

Not a developer here but your PHP is behind the times as mine was and I updated to PHP: 7.2.7. That fixed a backup problem due to an obsolete call in PHP. Also 3.0.9 is now in production.

Oh, good call. I thought it was auto updated by my hosting service. I'll update now and report the results.

Thank you!

Ok, I upgraded the PHP. My hosting service doesn't let me upgrade to the latest stable version, but close to it? The error message changed slightly, but perhaps meaningfully...

FUDforum version: 3.0.9RC1
PHP version: 7.0.25
PHP built on: Linux host358.hostmonster.com 3.10.0-693.11.6.1.ELK.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Jan 23 10:30:30 MST 2018 x86_64
Database type: mysql (mysqli)
Database version: 5.6.32-78.1
Web server: Apache
Web Server load: 4.66
Web server to PHP interface: cgi-fcgi
WebServer User/Group: mastert4 / mastert4 (2496/2496)
Relevant PHP settings:
Safe mode: OFF
Open basedir: none
Display errors: ON
File uploads: ON
Maximum file upload size: 64M
Output buffering: No
Disabled functions: dl
PSpell support: Yes
Zlib support: Yes

Here's the new error... (It used to be allocating 72 bytes, now it is trying to allocate a HUGE number of bytes) Before it was always 72 bytes and now it is always 268435464 bytes.

Quote:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 268435464 bytes) in /home8/mastert4/public_html/elliaison/forum/adm/admcat.php on line 120
I've also clicked on every other option under the forum administrator Control panel section and none of them has this error except the Category Manager.

If I see this correctly PHP is trying to allocate 268 MB

So take a look in your detailed PHP settings: Admin --> System Info --> Detailed PHP Info

Look for this line in the Core section "memory_limit 90M" - Mine is set for 90MB

I suspect you've exhausted this setting in your php.ini. You might want to increase that to 384M or something similar.

I'm surely not the expert but google and some poking around on my forum give me some clues. I hope this helps...

I have "memory_limit" set to 128M.
Unless you have massive amount of categories and forums, the default should be adequate.

I checked the memory limit it was set to 256MB which should be enough. I only have about 20 categories to display. But I increased it to 512MB to see what happens.

Now, the error changes to include the increased memory. Here is the new error:

Quote:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 536870912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 536870920 bytes) in /home8/mastert4/public_html/elliaison/forum/adm/admcat.php on line 120
I'm starting to think I have a bug that is trying to use the maximum memory available plus 8? (I noticed that it is trying to allocate 8 bytes of memory more than the allowed memory. I looked back at the previous error and saw that it also was trying to allocate exactly 8 bytes of memory more than the total memory allowed.)

Any other ideas?
