Which version of the forum are you trying to install?
When you've uploaded the file, did you make sure it was uploaded as binary the file was download/uploaded completely?

I've sorted out the first problem by uploading through XP Network Places. However my ISP is in Safe Mode and I got the following error message: ... therefor you must install the forum into a directory with does not yet exist.

So I did followed the suggested paths (which don't exist) and got Warning:

mkdir() failed (Permission denied) in /web/sites/128/johndenison/www.colebrook.f2s.com/install.php on line 415

Warning: mkdir() failed (Permission denied) in /web/sites/128/johndenison/www.colebrook.f2s.com/install.php on line 437

It isn't clear what I have to do. Is there an FAQ which would answer all these questions?

many thanks
John

Try installing FUDforum 2.5.0RC2, it should play much nicer with safe_mode limited systems.

How stable is 2.5.0RC2? I'm considering using it for my Intranet here at work. I just installed 2.3.8 yesterday. Is there a changelog hanging out anywhere for the changes between 2.3.8 and 2.5.0? Thanks.

Look at the list of changes posted in the announcment thread. RC2 is almost stable, there a few non-critical bugs that are left all of which are now resolved in CVS. So, I suspect a pre-final RC3 should be out within a week.

So, for new forums RC2 is a definate possiblity.
