Hi there,

I had set up a 2.3.8 forum (1st ever forum install) and now want to upgrade to the latest forum on a new machine with fixed IP, its own mail and DNS server and much better pipe.

I have the server ready, apached+php'd up. created a test forum nd al seems good with the latest software release 2.5.2.

I created a test forum, and got all my problems sorted (cookies being the main one.) What is the best way of migrating the data from the originl site.

i guess,

keep the mysql db the same name, dump out existing forum and import the datafile into the new site...or is this far too simplistic ????

I use the standard forum layout, bar a title splash at the top, as it looks jolly good to me as is.

any tips or gotcha's are appreciated.

thanks.

Andy

1) Upgrade your 2.3.8 forum to 2.5.2
2) Make a datadump
3) Import datadump into new forum.

I ran this in the site and got...

Disable the forum
Forum is now disabled
Check if SQL permissions to perform the upgrade are avaliable
Beginning the file upgrade process
Begining to decompress the archive
Finished decompressing the archive
File Upgrade Complete
Any changed files were backed up to: "/web/forum/errors/.backup/"

Fetch SQL archive
SQL archive is now avaliable
Beginning SQL Upgrades
SQL Upgrades Complete
Populating pdest field for private messages
Adding GLOBAL Variables
Compiling theme default

Executing Consistency Checker (if the popup with the consistency checker failed to appear you MUST click here
PLEASE REMOVE THIS FILE (/web/htdocs/upgrade.php) UPON COMPLETION OF THE UPGRADE PROCESS.
THIS IS IMPERATIVE, OTHERWISE ANYONE COULD RUN THIS SCRIPT!

The UPGRADE_STATUS file contains the number 1210.

The check consistency didn't run. I didn't get a pop up and when I clicked on 'Must click here' nothing happened.

I havetried twice with the same result, nothing in the error logs either. !!

I disabled the site prior to running this but now it won't let me in. The sites down Sad

i'll now be getting chased by 110 mad bikers, good job mines quicker than there's Smile

Any tips or pointers to get the site back at all please.

This is all like a steep learning curve, thanks for all your efforts boys.

Do this:

http://forum_url/adm/consist.php

If it asks your for your login info enter it, then click on the consistency checker link and run the consistency check.
