I'm running a pretty large Yahoo group with currently 3700 members and between 1000 and 2000 posts per month. I'm looking for a forum software on which to port the group.

FUDForum might be an option, because it integrates a mailing list with a web message board - if I understood things properly.

The mailing list feature is important, as many users send and receive the posts by email.

Could anybody answer the following questions:

1. Is email delivery of messages (not just notifications) indeed available ?

2. Is it also possible to post messages by email ? If yes, can users post messages to specific subforums ?

3. Is there a daily digest feature - one email sent each day with all messages of the day ?

4. Is FUDForum capable of dealing with this traffic (let's say 4000 users, most passive and a small number of active ones, between 1000 and 4000 messages/month) ?

5. Is there a search function to search across the messages of the board ?

6. If possible we would like to port the 18000 messages of the archives into the new database. We know how to download the messages, but is there an (automated) way to insert the messages into the new database and rebuild the structure ?

7. It should be possible to set up 4000 members and send each member user id and password by email, so that they don't have to register again, shouldn't it ?

8. The Yahoo group has Files, Links and Photos sections. Would it be possible to set up such sections also in FUDForum ?

9. Is there a Poll feature, where anonymous and non anonymous polls ?

That's pretty small as far as forums go, some of the larger FUDforum installations I know have 1000-500 posts per day.

Yes, you can choose to use full body e-mail notification.

You can setup a special e-mail address from which procmail (or equivalent) would pipe messages to maillist.php which would import the messages to FUDforum.

No, FUDforum is not a mailing list.

Definately, as I've said before a forum of that side would be considered small or maybe medium-small.

Yes.

No. However, if you could save each message as an e-mail, then you could import them via maillist.php fairly easily.

There is a facility to allow admins to manually create members. However given the number of members you need to create you may want to automate the process.

You can attach files to FUDforum messages and include links in them. There are no gallery or link list facilities.

There is poll feature. I am not sure what do you mean by anonymous polls.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Since daily digests are not available now, are there any plans to add them at a later point ?
If not, is there another forum software which integrates a mailing list with a web message board and has daily digests ?

One more question, I clicked the reply button to reply to your message, but the text of your message wasn't included as a quote. Can FUDForum be set up to automatically include the post to which you reply as a quote ?

If you want to quote the previous message you should click the quote button.

I have no plans to add digests, if someone were to sponsor development of such a feature in the future I would consider introducing it into FUDforum. But, it'd that would depend on implementation etc...
