why is all messages stored in a file?, ans why don't you save the fud-ed code instead?

for the answer to the first message search the archives.
As for the second question, the stored messages are stored as they would be displayed (converted to HTML) so no FUDcode to HTML conversion needs to occur during viewing.

Opps, I thought that the search is implemented with an index (and I've seen at least one table in the database which hold information which seems to be useful for the implementation of an index based search).

The search is implemented using a word list that is created based on the text inside the message.
