Hi,
I have been running my forum for 3 years. No problem so far, no changes in engine. Suddenly my problems started last month - fudforum can not serve users or serve them very very slow with big problems:
- responses are very, very slow - 10-30 sec. (some time it works great and responses are very very fast)
- many sql answers -> sql server is shutting down etc.
- 503 server overloaded
- last weekend I had to run Forum Consistency feature twice - no topics in forum

I asked my host provider if everything was OK with database. They made diagnosis and provide me info that sql/php scripts overload database.

Currently I have ~2500 users, 120 000 messages and 5100 topics. The biggest one forum has 55 000 messages and 2300 topics.

Could you give me some tips how to improve fud forum.

Forum Version: 2.7.2
Database Version: 5.0.66a-log
PHP Version: 5.2.6
Web Server: IdeaWebServer/v0.50

Best regards
Remek

For instance last 10 minutes and .... ~20 errors

1053: Server shutdown in progress
Query: SELECT SUM(length) FROM fud_pmsg WHERE duser_id=663
_GET: array ( 't' => 'ppost', 'toi' => '767', )

This is obviously not a FUDforum problem, Some suggestions:

1. See who is accessing the site (access_log), and block them ("Deny from" in .htaccess).

2. Tune the DB. This script may help: http://wiki.mysqltuner.com/MySQLTuner

3. Get a bigger dedicated server to host your forum.

Best of luck!

I generally am able to solve this performance problem by sending out a mass-email.
I am not sure that it has nothing to do with the communication between my fud and server though. As half of my site is running out of the DB and I do not have trouble there. But up till now I have not been able to find a clear reason for this to happen and not a proper solution too

You can always enable MySQL's slow query log to identify what's hammering your DB.
