Hi,

It's official, FUDforum version 2.8.0 was released a couple of minutes ago! So, hurry up and download it now. We hope that it will be a good release and a solid foundation for many future releases still to come.

A big thank you to everyone who made this release possible, especially Ilia for his great support and commitment to this project! Remember, everyone can help - and, we always need more volunteers to assist with testing, translations, documentation updates, theming and developing patches. Every contribution is appreciated and is vital to this project's continued success.

Overall we've made a huge amount of code changes. This release contains a number of bug fixes and new features that will make FUDforum an even more powerful forum system. Here are the changes since the 2.8.0 RC2 release:

- Ability to prevent new users from having links in their signatures till they have a certain number of posts
- The installer & upgrade script will now create new tables as utf8 encoded
- Fix attachment handling when using PostgreSQL (textcat typecast)
- The message compactor now works on Windows systems (close files before unlink)
- More USENET importing fixes (post duplication, mem limit, etc.)
- Fix sorting members by join date
- Several HTML optimizations and small fixes

Known problems:
- Help files for some non-English languages are not UTF8 encoded. A fix is available here.
- Dates do not display correctly on Windows with some non-English locales. A fix is available here.

As always, please test before upgrading your production systems. Also, remember to backup both your database AND FILES before upgrading.

Enjoy!

Frank
