Hi,

we are happily running FUDforum for 5 years at our site. Many thanks for this nice piece of software.

Right now we're having a discussion about notifications. I found the global option "All Message Forum Notification" but the community cannot reach a consensus whether it should be turned on or off.

So from my point of view it would be the best to turn this global option into a user option, so that every user can decide on his own whether he wants to receive notifications for every new post in a forum he subscribed to or only for newly started topics.

Kind regards,
Christopher

Users can already subscribe to the forums they are interested in.

I don't think Christopher was asking for the ability for users to subscribe to forums. Rather, he wants the "All Message Forum Notification" setting to be a user option. This setting determines whether users receive mail for all posts (within a subscribed forum) or just new topics. Currently, this is a global setting, but it's easy to see that user A might want to see all posts while user B wants to see just new topics.

I agree with Christopher that this would be a very useful change.

Ah, thanks for pointing it out. I haven't really look at this option before:

Quote:
If enabled, subscribers to a forum will receive notifications about every new message in the forum, rather then just new topics in the forum.

And yes, a user control would be nice. Anyone willing a develop a patch for us?

Just to support this, if at the same time we could make different senderaddresses possible for each forum, then together with the maillist import function FUDforum could act as a listmanager by itself.

Very easy to set op with postfix as mail-system.

I think it would be nice to have some more setting possibilities in the subscription and notification system, both for users and admins.

Maybe should also be part of group and forum management.

Which source files are needed to work on, some ideas, Frank?

Hi Peter,

More settings are fine, but we also need to present them better to prevent clutter and ensure we don't confuse newbie users.

Settings are defined in the GLOBALS_HELP file (include directory). To toggle them, look at admglobal.php. Eventually they will end up in your GLOBALS.php file.

Best regards.

Frank
