From the article it appears that it is not an issue of "IF" but of "WHEN" you make PHP 5.2 the Minimum. Sounds like you basically have the option of progressing along with developments in technology or stagnating.

Of course that is from my perspective and I cannot even begin to fathom it from a developer's point of view.

Yet as a User 1st (administrator by necessity) what PHP version is used is less important (at least for now) for FUDforums Development/Popularity than usability.

If I understand correctly; making PHP 5.2 a minimum requirement for FUDforum would only affect future releases of the software, so all older versions would continue to run as long as their Host supports PHP4 and PHP5.

What is less clear is if such a change would affect restoring backups such as might be encountered in changing hosts/domains/upgrading to a newer version. My gut instincts say the only issue for the average user/admin would be ensuring their Hosts support the new minimum requirement and moving if not.




I am new to this so explain things very, very carefully!
