Hi,

(Sorry if this isn't a new question!)

I'm very interested in FUD Forum's integration of web and email posting, but I'm wondering how the software handles outgoing emails. Say that you have about 1000 members who have elected to receive new postings by email, is a person who posts a new message (say at the web) going to have to wait forever for this to occur? If this is handled by some special mechanism (e.g., chron job?), could someone comment as to the mechanism and what web host services are required to support it?

TIA and much for a newbie question!
(I'm really interested in replacing a 2,300 member Yahoo group with this software, but most of my members use email ONLY.)

The e-mail notification works by sending 1 string of data to your mail server (sendmail, qmail, etc...) and then the e-mail server actually sends the e-mail. So the delay of sending e-mail notifications is minimal.

Thanks for the explanation.

Btw, I wondered because pMachine talked about implementing something like this, and claimed that it was a big problem (with large distribution lists) because of some process timing out.

Anyway, not to belabor the point, but couldn't the 'data' be large if the post was large and "send entire post" was enabled?

TIA.

The actual sending of message is done by your e-mail server, so FUDforum is not really affected.

I'm on the verge of deploying FUDforum plugging in to an existing mailing list with about 600 subscribers, using Mailman (http://list.org/).

This is only relevant because, for a large distribution list, it might be worthwhile using a seperate mailing list manager. Especially if you've got a membership that mostly uses email.

10 percent weird
