I am trying to install FUD forum on my webspace, and am getting the error:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted at (null):0 (tried to allocate 4828480 bytes) in Unknown on line 0

safe_mode is disabled, and my host will not increase my memory limit. The directory the install script is in is writable by the web server (CHMOD 775) and a file, fudforum_archive exists and is also writable by the web server (CHMOD 775). For some reason, I am still getting these errors. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

What version of FUDforum are you trying to install and are you using the compressed or the uncompressed install script?

I'm trying to install 2.6.0 uncompressed.

Try the compressed version.

Okay, now the Fatal Error has stopped, but I'm now getting the error "Please make sure that the intaller has permission to write to the current directory (/home/virtual/site26/fst/var/www/forum)".

I've tried as many reasonable chmod combinations I could think of and still get that error.

EDIT: Never mind, just had to chmod my fudforum_archive file.

Thanks for the quick responses with the help Very Happy

EDIT 2: Okay, I'm getting another error. This time its: Couldn't open /home/virtual/site26/fst/var/www/forum/data/cache/.htaccess for write
Is there a way to fix this? Is there a distribution of FUD forum that does NOT use the installer, and I just have to upload files?

FUDforum installation is always performed by the installer.

You can fix the permissions problem by making sure the webserver can write to the /home/virtual/site26/fst/var/www/forum/data/cache/ directory.

I cannot. When I try to chmod I get an FTP error saying the option is not permitted.

Yes, but it is inside the non-browsable data root.

who owns the directory, it should be owned by the same user the webserver is running as.

It's owned by apache, for some reason, while everything else deeper then */var/www/ is owned by me. I am contacting my host to change permissions.

it should be owned by apache, which makes the error you are seeing so strange, since apache should have permissions to create the file.
