I'm running 3.02, and users have no problems attaching files to their messages. However, when the posting user - or any other user - attempts to download the attached file, they get a 404 error. I've verified in 'files' subdirectory that the attachments are present as *.atch files. I see nothing in the error log. Am I the only one with this problem? Where do we start in identifying the problem?

Looks like it's working on this forum.

Debug it!

Interestingly enough, I find that if I right-click the attachment, copy the shortcut, and post it to the browser's address bar, the download prompt comes up as it should. However, just clicking the file gives me the 404.

When I compare the URLs from the copy/paste and the "direct click," they are exactly the same.

FYI, same issue on both Chrome and MSIE browsers.

Any other "debugging" suggestions you might offer would be helpful. Smile

Does apache have rights to read the files directory in the DATA_ROOT?

I'll check. What should the permissions be for the directory? 666?

644 should be enough on the files and for the directory it should be 755 i think

Also try with another browser, clear cache, etc.

Tried both IE and Chrome. Cleared cache on both and tried again with both old and new permissions. No change.

What puzzles me is that if I grab the URL from the link and paste it in the address bar, the file will download. It's something about how the link is being handled (by the php???) if it is clicked.
