I changed the user password for the database on MySQL, then opened the admin of the forum and updated the password there, but when I saved I got an error and cannot access the forum admin.

I've changed the password back in MySQL and now I can get back into the admin: how does one change the password properly?

Password was changed firstly in forum admin, then, in MySQL I deleted the user, and recreated the same username with the new password. Prior errors were the result of reversed procedure. Password changed successfully.

Great, I've added your notes to the wiki.

PS: An easier method may be to change it in the GLOBALS.php file (use a text editor).
