new forum that's been up for about 12 hours, apparently has become rather popular:

"Most users ever online was 790 on ...."

Despite "There are 2 members, 0 invisible members and 13 guests visiting this board."

Stats show this isn't true. I think the 790 are page hits. not uniques.

think? i did, checked the logs, and not possible. and, really...790 robots hitting the site at one time. think not possible.

I have disabled "most users online" since all it shows are robot crawls. If you haven't defined anything in your robots.txt one search engine can have 100s of connections at the same time.

"Guests" can also be robots. There is currently no check against http_headers or IPs vs a list of serach engines

sure, but what i can't understand is there are only 5 messages in the forum, i've disabled rss/pdf pages, so can't understand why the count is so high.

no, my server would have died! i've tested the serving of static html pages with siege and it's not pretty!
