Try looking around for an appropriate newsgroup. This one is about
programming in PHP, not recommendations for scripts (which may or may
not be written in PHP).
But generally I'd just write the script - it wouldn't be that
complicated, and faster than searching for an existing script then
adapting it for the site.

This still isn't the right place to ask.

Uhhhhmmm ..... what? This isn't the place to ask people with Php
experience if any of them know of a Php script that can fill their need?
I fail to see your logic. This is most certainly not the wrong place to
ask. Why so put off-ish? This is not a helpful response in this case.
No wonder Usenet is dying. Hopefully this poster will find a web based
forum that won't be so uptight.

No, this is for asking about programming in PHP. Few people here would
have any experience in such a script, unless they wrote their own.
If I knew of a specific place he should ask, I would tell him that
place. Unfortunately, I don't.
It's not about being stand-offish. It's about getting him good
responses. And he'll get that best from where people who use such
scripts hang out. Not in a newsgroup for programmers in a language.
And by your logic, I should be asking my Windows questions in a C
newsgroup, because Windows is written in C. I think not...

You mean if they *programmed* it in *Php*? .... or perhaps they were
adept at modifying anything written in Php? That is what a "Php
programming forum" is all about. I'd bet most, if not all contributers
and lurkers here have used a third party Php script for something at
some time. This is a perfectly fine place to float such a question.

So just move on and let him ask if anyone else here has come across such
a thing. You are not the only Php programmer that frequents this group.

That is not an accurate comparison at all. A straw man.
---
Say ..... I'd like to incorporate a third party bulletin board into a
project I'm writing in Php. I'd like it to be written in Php as well,
so I can easily modify it using my stunningly brilliant Php programming
abilities. Do any Php programmers in this forum happen to know of any?
Thinking you must nip such an inquiry in the bud is nothing short of
obstinance.
This is a Php programmer's community ... you know? Where we can help
each other in our Php pursuits. The last thing needed is a
self-appointed despot trying to moderate the group (or as it seems to be
going ... choke it to death).
Lighten up.

So according to your logic I should be asking all my Windows questions
in a C programming newsgroup because Windows was programmed in C.
Horse Hockey.
Sure, I've used third party scripts. But when I need help with those
scripts, I go to the right place - the support structure for those
scripts. And when I am looking for recommendations for those types of
scripts, I go to the right place - somewhere people who actually use
those scripts hang out.
Just because a script is written in PHP does not mean this is a good
place to ask - despite the desires of idiots like you who would like to
make it so.

Or recommend he find the right place to ask - which is a MUCH BETTER
answer.
Where would he get a better answer - a place where MAYBE one or two
people have used a script, or a place where there are dozens or even
hundreds of people who use them every day?

If I had a good answer, I would have told him. But that still doesn't
mean this is the right place to look.

How about Googling some? Just because he (and you) haven't taken the
time to find a better place doesn't mean this is a good place to ask.

He's asking about scripts written in PHP in a PHP programming group.
And asking about Windows in a C programming newsgroup is an exact
comparison. But idiots can't understand such a simple concept.

Which would be best asked in a BBS newsgroup. And followed up in the
support structure for specific bulletin boards to understand how they
can be incorporated in your scripts.

Stop trolling and learn why there are tens of thousands of newsgroups
out there. Just because you're too lazy or too stoopid to search for
the proper place to ask some questions doesn't mean the rest of us have
to put up with your crap.

Just as much as asking about windows programs in a C newsgroup is.
Asking about how to modify a script written in PHP is a completely
different question - which, BTW, is best handled by the support
structure for that script, not this newsgroup.
But some people are just too lazy to find an appropriate place to look,
or just too stoopid to understand why their question is off topic.
Once again - if you want a good answer to your question, check the
newsgroups and/or forums where people who use those scripts hang out.
That is NOT HERE.
