Frankly these obscenity filters make a mockery of posting. Far better to
have a 'report' button and a moderator.
Examples of things that have fallen foul of these pre programmed filters
The law is an ass.
I tossed the pancake
Have you been to Scunthorpe?
Labrador bitch for sale.
It's only a pin prick.
The car used to be powered by a Wankel engine.
I really like shitake mushrooms.

Not to mention things which might *not* fall foul of a preprogrammed
filter, such as $h!t, @$$ho1e, etc. Or b a d w o r d, b.a.d.w.o.r.d,
b_a_d_w_o_r_d, etc.

Who are the users you are sheilding? Who is using the form? People
all over the world have names and addresses that are real but sound
offensive. Have you considered Dick Van Dyke? TNP brought up Scunthorpe,
but there's that famous town of Intercourse in Pennsylvania and many
places. Unless you are (1) dealing with the mentally incompetant,
(2) children (who often have (1) for parents), or a few very other
special cases, you should probably just forgetaboutit. You will fail
to filter something or will filter something wrong. That guy in Fort
Gay got a lot of news attention. Do you want to be responsible for
the next uproar?

I agree. It is not the language that is abusive, it is the users that
are either abusive or perceive it as abusive. Context is also a major
thing. It also depends on context.
Filtering out the users who are (perceived as) abusive will be easier
then filtering out the language.
