We have in our 2.6.0 installation some non-public forums, which are set 'visible=yes' but 'read=no' for 'registered users' and are only accessible via a group.

If we now distribute a URL to a forum or posting like

http://xxx/index.php?t=thread&frm_id=12
http://xxx/index.php?t=rview&goto=243

by email or otherwise and a user references this URL without prior login to the forum, (s)he will only get a dialog with the message

Your user permissions do not allow you to perform the action you are attempting.

Even though this is technical correct, it is highly inconvenient. At this place one would like to have a dialog stating that a login is required, giving the option to actually login, and if done so properly, display the page refered to by the URL entered initially.

A flat denial type error should imho only used when a user is already logged in and tries something beyond his/her credentials.

I wonder whether you had a chance to take care of this point. We upgraded to 2.6.2. In a forum, with permissions determimed by a group and set for the Anonymous user to Visible="yes" and all others to "no" I see the following behaviour:

starting being logged out
executing a /index.php?t=rview&goto=### link to a posting of the protected forum
I get an error dialog stating "Permission Denied! Your user permissions do not allow you to perform the action you are attempting."

so all is as it used to be.

I missed two error tracking instances, they are now fixed.
