you don't need continuous shifting .......

<?php $x=1; ?>Some <strong>html</strong> here<?php $x=$x+1 ?>

Will have the same effect as:
<?php
$x=1;
echo "Some <stong>html</strong> here";
$x=$x+1;
?>
