I have no best way mate.

Its worth listening to WHY (if they actually explain) they think your
way is 'wrong' and if they have valid points, modifying it, but the fact
is you don't write a 1000 programmer corporate database the same way as
you write a device driver for a USB peripheral.

And people who have worked solely on the one will never have anything
relevant to say about the other.

Having worked more or less at both ends I don't involve myself in
religious narrow minded arguments except to point out that they are
ignorant narrow minded arguments.

If the other other guys apart from me have given you pause for thought,
and made things clearer, so much the better.

I am not always the best person to copy anyway: I code fast and in small
groups and the maintainer is mostly me. That may not be what you want or
need. If you are gearing code towards maintainability by lower than
average intelligence hackers like Jerry, you will need to spend far more
time commenting and writing documentation: The solution that achieves
its results in ten incomprehensible (to jerry) lines is simply no good.
You MUST use the approach that he was taught and will recognise even if
its hopelessly out of date, insecure and inefficient. IF he is the sort
of asshole that is all your company can afford to employ.

And since that is the only sort of company that ever HAS employed jerry,
you cab see that his recommendations TO that company are entirely correct.

"If you employ assholes like me you must write code FOR assholes like
me, and this is all I know".

You cant unless you are intelligent enough to use critical thinking to
assess what people say and in the context of what you are trying to do.

Otherwise your name is jerry and you simply buy a text book that tells
you what is 'right' and slavishly do it that way. And hope your next
employer didn't buy a DIFFERENT text book.

To people who know nothing, anything is possible.
To people who know too much, it is a sad fact
that they know how little is really possible -
and how hard it is to achieve it.
