I just saw a PHPBB forum with a nice floating popup menu:

maybe you could consider this for FudForum ?

This does not work in all browsers and I really dislike idea of popups in general.

Such a floating menu is in principle nice, matter of personal taste whether one likes this style or not.

However, this site works fine with Mozilla 1.6, but for example not with Konqueror 3.1.3. So there seem to be browser incompatibilities, and that's way I'd stay away from this.
