Sub-topics aren't very useful as you can't tell if there is any new content from the top level view. If you have a topic that contains several active sub-topics, from the top-level view you have no clue that there is any activity there.

The top-level view of a topic with sub-topics should have a glowing lightbulb when the sub-topics have new content, and also the parent topic message count should reflect the total of all sub-topics.
