I've changed out existing smilies code parser to a new experimental code that no longer uses regular expression. This code is ~ 25x faster, since my test 400k file took only .5 second to process versus 17.6 seconds using the old code.
The new code also doesn't trigger on invalid smiley syntax.
So, grab the new smiley.inc.t from CVS and give it a whirl, iI'd would very much like to use it in 2.0 release, which means any bugs/problems with it need to be found and fixed
