How do I change my log in name after having registered in a forum?

I was a silly creature and didn't use my preferred name registering to the Furcon 2005 forum.

Trying to update in "profile" doesn't do it.
Logging out and then coming in and re-registering under the new name doesn't do it. It recognizes my e-mail address and keeps asking me if I want to just change my password.
Deleting my bookmark to the entire converntion site and then coming in doesn't do it. Same results as above.

Am I doomed?

Do I need to give up and use a different e-mail address to get around this? (ugh. major nuisance.)

I haven't posted anything to that forum except one login change query, so my first login name can be changed or deleted without causing continuity problems
