When I run nntp.php to download a few hundred messages for one newsgroup, between mysqld and nntp.php they are eating up 100% CPU resources bring this P4 box to its knees. Therefore forum and web traffic are almost brought to a stand still during the update.
When I run some really intensive mysql applications on this same box they hardly eats up as much CPU as when I run nntp.php. FUDForum runs very fast on this box otherwise.
Any ideas on how to get nntp.php to play nice? (I am running on RH Enterprise Linux 3.3, mysql 4.0.21 and php 4.3.2-19)
thx

Well, one suggestion is run the nntp inport during 'off' hours when the server is not busy. The other idea is to disable the search functionality, which is what is reponsible for most of the slow downs during the import process.
