I have been having difficulty editing the forum rules (under the pre_reg template, using the message editor). I'll add some things and it will be OK, then I'll add some more and get a blank page when I log out then click on the Register link. I'll go back and delete some and it will be OK again.

Is there a limit to the length of the forum rules? If so, what are the parameters?

OK, I managed to say what I needed to say more concisely (just trying to cover myself for any eventuality). I'm still curious about why it wouldn't work with more text.

That's strange. I wrote up an all new one, a combination of the default one and the one I'd used on the old forum which had evolved over time to include bases that needed covered, and tried to just paste that in over the default one. Got a blank screen when clicking on "Register". Changed it back to the original and it was fine. Tried replacing one paragraph at a time. I'd replace one and it was fine, replace another and it was fine, but at some point the blank screen would be produced. I'd have to go back and delete and start over. It took me about an hour and a half to get something near what I wanted in the first place. I even thought the number of paragraphs might be an issue and made mine have the same number, but that didn't work.

I suspect you may have things like unencoded ' which caused problems for the template compiler.

I intentionally formatted mine exactly like the original. I put paragraph tags inline with the text, like the original. I tried everything I could think of. I had no quote marks, apostrophes, parentheses or anything like that.

Well a blank page usually indicates a parser error, generated by invalid chars (unencoded) that confused the template compiler... Try to see if you can isolate the problem a single line, that causes problems and then paste it here.

I really don't see anything like that in what failed which is not in the version that succeeded. Things like "and/or", "owner(s)" and "handle" (with quotes) appear in both versions.

I finally arrived at a version that works for me. I don't wish to edit it any further at this time.

Thanks.
