Specifically, for a forum beginner, what features make FUD unique?

I'm sincerely interested in any (and all) specific advantages it has over other forums like phpbb and wowbb; both considerations of mine.

I'm a programmer, so feel free to be specific Wink

Thanks very much.

Speed, FUDforum is VERY fast.
Security compared to other forums FUDforum has the least security vulnerabilities.
Feature Set:
* Build in spell checker
* Ability to generate PDFs based on pages (without the need for 3rd party extensions).
* RSS/XML data feeds.
* ACL - flexible group permissions systems
* A very large FUDcode message formatting block.
& many others.

Thanks for the info.

Please tell me what the Group permissions system offers that others don't? Being a little new to forums, I'm not clear on how it is enhanced with FUDforum.

Looks very nice, btw, nice job!

Thanks again!

Gives you fine grained control over all message posting and manipulation functions on a per-user/per-forum basis.

Support for Postgresql is why I use it. The only other one I could find that has this support is phpBB which has a bad security track record.

The flatfile instead of database message storage is another fairly unique thing. I am not aware of any other forums that are a flatfile/database hybrid. Most are one or the other. Whether this system is actually better is arguable tho.

As for the user permissions, I don't much like fuds system for this compared to others, but other than that I've been happy with the features.

I'm in the midst of evaluating FUDforum myself.

The killer feature for me is the cross-posting features to & from mailing lists and netnews servers. Surprising how few forums have that feature, let alone have it working well.

I'm looking at using FUDforum as an archive & aggregator for various internal mailing lists and external RSS feeds (via newspipe). I'll be feeding HTML emails into FUDforum, not something that's normally a good idea, and so it's not an area that's been as thoroughly exercised as elsewhere.

I have encountered a few issues. But the FUDforum developers have been coming back with patchs to fix them within 24 hours. To me, that kind of responsiveness and willingness to nail an issue is a huge 'feature' all by itself.
