This is odd behavior. Let's say you are viewing the "Bug Reports" forum under the "FUDforum Development" category on this board. If you select "- FUDforum Development" from the drop down navigator and click the "Go" button, the page you are viewing essentially refreshes. This is counter to what one would image it would do, which is to take you to the page listing all the forums in the "FUDforum Development" category.

The categories in the dropdown are merely placeholders. With JavaScript enabled they won't even let you reload the page.

I have javascript enabled and they still reload the page when the go button is pressed. I really think this is a bug, not a feature. If the item is selectable then it should do something. There is no indication that selecting a category and clicking go will not do anything (as expected). It isn't intuitive at all.

Just so you are aware, there seems to be a bug in Safari that allows a disabled option to be selected. I have filed a report here -- http://bugzilla.opendarwin.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8979
