We have a huge FUDforum for students taking math-courses at the TU-Berlin and like your software very much. Due to the new legal situation (decision by the Bundesgerichtshof (Az: VI ZR 101/06 vom 27. März 2007) I would like to configure the forum in such a way, that only those persons have the right to write into the forum who have registerd by name or by their immatriculation number and so, that the contributers can be identified by the readers. How can this be done?

Well, you can do one of two things. You can create take away posting privileges from the "all registered" users mask and only grant post privileges on a case by case basis by manually giving them POST and REPLY permissions.

The other alternative is to modify the forum's source code to check for their name and # and if it matches the valid list then assign them needed permissions.

Thanks for your swift reply. Both ways seem to be rather cumbersome because the require a lot of work if one thinks about thousands of users. An alternative would be to import login data into the FUDforum. Is this possible?

Yes, you can certainly do that. FUDforum provides an API (look in the scripts directory) that amongst other things lets you create fudforum users.
