I want to have a single mailing list for the entire forum. On top of having to tediously add mailing list rules for every forum we create, this is creating a lot of issues when messages r moved across forums. And this happens because many users r clueless and post in teh wrong forums. When the first post is moved to another forum, the email reply always gets to first forum itself, creating a lot of issues for us.

So is there some way i can tell fudforum to just have a single mailing list for the entire system?

Yes, it will have slightly higher load, but i don't think it is an issue, since i use mutt very strictly and so the emails contain all teh requisite headers, and so a 'subject check' is never done.

Without 'subject check', will there be any difference in efficiency between 1 mailing list per forum and having 1 mailing lis for teh entire system?

Thanks.

I had 2 mailing lists configured, but I am giving up after applying an upgrade to FUD when they broke for some reason I can't figure out.

Not sure if you are aware of this feature but I have turned on a new feature (Notify with body) that lets subscribed users get emails sent to them from the forum with the content post from the forum embedded in it and they also see proper formatting, smileys etc. since it is HTML. As you can see from pic below there are conveninet links to Reply, Quote, View Topic or Unsubscribe. So far they like it better !

The other nice part of this, is there is no upkeep manually of the email mailing list, and users can choose to subscribe/unsubscribe at their leisure.

Hey, Nice feature. I will add the link to the actual post at the bottom of the mail, which will allow me to track posts easier. At present, i am the only one using teh mailing list, since i use mutt to do everything. It is a great feature nevertheless.

Can u tell me where i can configure this? Oh btw, i am using a text MUA and html is striclty prohibitted. A single line at teh bottom containing the url to the actual post is the only extravaganza that i can afford. Smile

Thanks.

To configure this go to the Admin console and under Global Configuration (the main page), scroll down to Email Settings and make sure this is set to Yes:

Notify W/Body:
Include the message body and subject inside the email notification. Yes.

You also need to have a defined working email address filled in in the Notify From field to send email from the forum and make sure that the first option is turned on:

Allow Email:
Enable/disable the forum's built-in email client. Yes.

Then just Subscribe yourself to a forum and check it out (to do this go into a forum and click 'Subscribe' in upper right). You can also manage your subscriptions from your user Control Panel. It may only work with new threads not sure yet, and of course I am running 2.7.7 here (unsure when feature came along).
