I am getting the same thing. I am trying to install FUDForum on a new web server. Please keep me in the loop. I have attached the install script that I am trying to run...it is the latest 2.3.1RC2 file.

My exact error is:

Warning: gzuncompress: data error in /services/webpages/r/b/rbsweb.ca/public/issues/install.php on line 307
Failed decompressing the archive

Same problem with the latest release, 2.3.1. This error started occuring with the first release that included the new zlib compression that you are using...I believe it was 2.3.1RC1

Hi all, I just downloaded the latest release of FUDforum, 2.3.1, and I'm getting the same Step 1 error message:

Warning: gzuncompress: data error in /home/charlesdanuk/public_html/forum/install.php on line 307
Failed decompressing the archive

My server is running PHP version 4.0.6 and I chmod'd both directories (/forum and /forum/data) to 777 before attempting the install. However, I'm very new at all this, so if anyone has any suggestions please put them in layman's terms -- thanks! Confused

Snooped around the web for data error info on gzuncompress, and saw a forum reference to 'binary' filetypes. I use CuteFTP defaulting to autodetect and I'm pretty sure it uploaded install.php as an ascii file the first time. So I uploaded it again as binary and voila - it works!

Now I have to sort out the answers to Step 2.... Shocked

I just upped the file as binary as well and it is okay now.

Thanks! Very Happy

Great news Smile, thanks for letting me know.

The install script already had some binary data at the top to make all programs think it was a binary file, but it seems some programs choose to ignore this. At least, now I know what to reply to people who report a similar problem.
