While trying to upgrade 1.2.8 to 2.0.2 (so I could eventually get to 2.3.2) much badness happens and the long and short of it is that I can access the Admin Control Panel, but not the forum itslef, nor run the oldfrm_upgrade.php script again (I just get bounded to the "Forum undergoing upgrades; admins login here" screen). I made a separate installation of 2.3.2 on my machine and my situation is this.

The corpse of the old forum (the 1.2.8/2.0.2 mishmash) seems to still contain content in MySQL, though the PHP forum part is not working. There is a data dump which I tried to import into the new 2.3.2 installation. Now, nothing works. The 2.3.2 copy now just posts a "fatal error" message and doesn't work at all. The old mismash version 1.2.8/2.0.2 still lets me get to the Admin Control Panel, but trying to do anything, or get to the forum content, just produces MySQL errors.

I'm at my wit's end here. Anyone have any suggestions? Is anyone like Prottoss (or someone approved by him) payable/bribeable to help me troubleshoot this?

Elise

If it helps, I just get the error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: q() in /public_html/fuddata/include/theme/default/db.inc on line 253

1) Was the datadump you've tried to import from version 2.3.2?
2) After upgrading from 1.2.8 to 2.0.2 did you continue the upgrade process and upgrade to 2.3.2?

Yes, once I ran oldfrm_upgrade and had partial acces to the Admin Control Panel, I pressed on and ran the second script to bring the forum up 2.3.2. The error I list in my second response is all I get now.

The datadump and attempt to restore in another fresh copy of 2.3.2 was a bust, and that fresh copy into which I tried to import the data is, I think, a loss. That's OK since it was just there as a vehicle to accept the datadump from the original forum.

Last night I tried getting another copy of DB.INC to drop into . . ./themes/default. If I do this, get get a different set of errors talking about "cannot add header." I rolled DB.INC back since changing it was a total shot in the dark.

If there are specific things I can attempt to do and then return here with the feedback and results, I'm happy to try and promise to be prompt. I'm dead in the water to the extent that now any attempt to acces the forum just gets me to:

Undergoing Upgrades
Administrators can login here

and when I click "here" to log in, I get:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: q() in .../public_html/fuddata/include/theme/default/db.inc on line 253

Also, trying to run the upgrade.php script is a bust as well to the extent I just end up back in the same place.

I saw elsewhere here where you've used a debug.php tool successfully - would it help here?

I really appreciate your time and any direction you can provide.

Sincerely,

Elise

That means your datadump is from version 2.0.2, you cannot import it to 2.3.2. You need to upgrade from 2.0.2 to 2.3.2 first.

I've already run the script to upgrade to 2.3.2 and an getting the db.inc error described above, and have no access to the Admin control panel.

Rerunning the update.php script again, just now, still gets me nowhere and with the same db.inc error described abvoe, but I thought you might like to see the output from the upgrade.php script:

Beginning the file upgrade process
File Upgrade Complete
Any changed files were backed up to: ".../public_html/fuddata/errors/.backup/"

Beginning SQL Upgrades
SQL Upgrade Complete

Adding GLOBAL Variables
Finished Adding GLOBAL Variables
DATADIR: .../public_html/fuddata/
Compiling default

Executing Consistency Checker (if the popup with the consistency checker failed to appear you MUST click here
PLEASE REMOVE THIS FILE(.../public_html/fud/ugrade.php) UPON COMPLETION OF THE UPGRADE PROCESS.
THIS IS IMPERATIVE, OTHERWISE ANYONE COULD RUN THIS SCRIPT!

The window spawned by the consistentcy checker call just produces the same error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: q() in .../public_html/fuddata/include/theme/default/db.inc on line 253

We are clearly not communicating correctly here. You've said that after upgrading to version 2.0.2, you've made a data dump and then you've tried to import that data dump into FUDforum 2.3.2. That is WRONG, the import/dump ONLY works correctly when both source & destination forum run the same version.

You're correct and I apologize for being confusing; really, it's not intentional and I'll try harder to be less so.

To keep things simple, just ignore the datadump, and ignore the second fresh copy of 2.3.2 I installed. The datadump is worthless (I only tried using it with 2.3.2 because there is not a copy of 2.0.2 I can download, and I figured it couldn't hurt). The second fresh copy of 2.3.2 was nothing but an experiment, and is worthless as well.

So, the simple issue is we have a forum that started out yesterday morning as 1.2.8. I ran the oldfrm_upgrade.php script and I got to 2.0.2 to the extent I had access to the Admin Control Panel, but could not access the forum itself. I then ran the upgrade.php script to bring it up to 2.3.2, and now do not have any Admin Control Panel access, and just get the db.inc error described above.

Does that clear the issue somewhat?

Do you recall the reason why you could not access the forum after upgrading to 2.0.2? Were there any error messages?

Below is the message I saved after running oldfrm_upgrade.php the first time. I don't know if it's relevant. The working folder for my forum is actually called "gab" and not "fud" so /gab and /gabdata are the two working folders involved (I editted the previous messages to change gab -> fud to be less confusing for you).

The first problem is that when I ran the oldfrm_upgrade.php script, I goofed somehow and managed to run them as user "nobody" instead of "eheise." This left me with lots of files with permission 600 I couldn't access or repermission normally. A friend wrote a little PHP script that allowed me to correct this, and then I was able to run the oldfrm script again, without all the unlink() errors. It was at **that** point I could access the Admin Control Panel. The errors I got from it and my inability to connect to my forum related to still more permissions problems with a few files. I do not think the permissions issue is a problem any more as I've just opened everything up with very open permissions (for the time being, until I get the forum operating again).

Not sure this will help, but that's the long response.
