Hi folks,

After upgrading to the new version it indicates I'm still running 2.3.3. It very well could have something to do with the way I had to upgrade due to safe mode problems on a remote server.

What I had to do is save my forum settings - nuke the forum and data files - run 'install.php' for 2.3.4 - apply my saved settings to the forum.

I'm pretty sure that 2.3.4 is running because the 'submit reply' button (which, I think, was added in 2.3.4) is there alongside the 'spell check' and 'preview' options.

Is there anyway that I can conclusively check that I'm running 2.3.4 and a file I can edit to change the displayed version number?

Aside from that.....thanks for this very productive and easy to manage software. The quality is very impressive.

ken

The version number is hardcoded in include/core.inc (variable $FORUM_VERSION). Maybe you took the wrong install.php file?

The file I used was dated 10/28/02 8:14 AM out of the tarball. I browsed through some of the files in the include dir and the comment sections on some files (i.e., nntp.inc) indicate a date after the 2.3.3 release which was 21oct02, I think.

If it is actually 2.3.4 than I'll simply change the version number in the core.inc file you pointed out and include that procedure in my future upgrades.

Thanks for replying,

ken

The file date is not relavent, because the file was created during decompressiong. Inside the file there is a CVS $Id line containing the actual CVS date of the file. Core.inc's date should be 2002/10/27 17:09:38

I found the entry you were referencing:

$Id: core.inc,v 1.35 2002/10/27 17:09:38 hackie Exp $

I'm going to install the forum once more and let you know what I find.

Thanks,

ken

Then you should be seeing 2.3.4 as the forum version.

ok.....I performed a data dump, removed the forum and related data files from the server and installed the 2.3.4 package. Prior to importing the saved data the forum displayed version number 2.3.4. After importing it reverted to displaying 2.3.3.

I'm sure it's due to an unorthodox install procedure but can I safely assume it's actually 2.3.4 incognito?

Does core.inc tell you that you have 2.3.4?

If so, then it maybe the problem with compiled files. Just regenerate them.

The core.inc displays: $Id: core.inc,v 1.33 2002/10/20 19:46:24 hackie Exp $

I'll attempt to regenerate anyway although I don't think it will make a difference.

What you did was WRONG.

Thr upgrade procedure involves running the upgrade script not what you did. When you re-imported the 2.3.3 datadump the certain files like core.inc were replaced in the process. So, you are running an underminate mix of 2.3.3 and 2.3.4

That's what I thought. The import function doesn't function properly across different versions.

Due to problems with safe mode (which is way beyond my knowledge level) I cannot use the upgrade file. The only way someone in my boat can truely upgrade is to nuke the previous version and start over.....which plainly sucks.

Thanks for your help.

A number of people use forums within a safe_mode enviroment and they had not reported any problems with the upgrade process.

My situation is exactly like this one:

http://fud.prohost.org/forum/index.php?t=msg&th=1161&start=0&ri d=504&S=b091fd7e23d03c8bbd3c24252063fa38

Since I just setup the forum, I really don't have alot of information to replace. On the next upgrade, I'll attempt to compress the upgrade files from cvs and see how it goes.
