Hi!

I have found a problem reading long threads in tree wiew. Forum marks messages I haven't read yet as "read". Usually it looks like that:

...
|- Message 1 from user A
||- Message 2 from user B
...
|- Message 3 from user C
||- Message 4 from user B

In this situation when reading message 2 from user B, forum often marks two messages as read: message 2 and message 4. It seems forum marks any messages from specific sender in the same level of the thread (level 2 in example).

I don't know the mechanism of marking messages in FUD, but I think that marking by message ID will be great Wink

Marking messages 'read' is done by timestamp, which is virtually the same as marking by id, only more accurate. When you read a message inside a topic all messages that were posted before this message are automatically marked read. For performance reasons it is not practical to mark each an every message read/unread.

I see now. It's not realy practical to mark each an every message read/unread: for this, forum should store (messages) x (users) rows in database. Sad

I think the way it works now is fine, you are welcome to change how it works on your foru, this is open source afterall. But as far as FUDforum's core distribution this will not be added.
