I've set up FUD on my site, and while the installation went smoothly, I appear to have one problem.
I've created a number of forums, but I am unable to create a thread, and therefore, am unable to post anything.

Pete, you've created lots of categories but not a single forum  .
You need forum, because that is where people post their messages.
Create a forum and you'll be able to post messages in it.
