This problem seems to have solved itself. In the past week, the incidence of FF freezes due to permissions changing to 777 has stopped.

I did nothing to fix or try to fix it. I did disable some FF aspects not used in this particular situation. Maybe that skipped the intransigent bit of code that was changing permissions. ...Or maybe FF has evolved self-healing powers, since it seems to be able to do everything else. Smile
