Thanks Frank, I forgot about that. That is great.

For anyone else who gets into a similar issue, I enabled the botscout plugin and got a free API key from the website and it worked great. Immediately the spambot was unable to create new accounts and things slowed down after awhile once they realized it wasn't working any more.
