If the OP only saw a total of two messages on the group, upon first access,

It would be better to move the offending spam to a folder of its own, just
in case a good mail gets in there accidentally. Then you can still check
them to see if there is any mail that needs rescuing before deleting the
rest.

Actually: Do you mean to say that 2 (TWO) spams are too many for you?
Actually, it's unusual to see spam on this group but no system is perfect.
If two spams are too much for you, I would have to be of the opinion that
you belong on forums, not public lists and newsgroups. You're playing in the
wrong sandbox.
