(Actually, the permissions I was refering to were not the owner, but the user permissions. Besides, they were reset fast, within a second or so.)

Anyway, I have sorted out the issue (well, stumbled upon a repair...). For future information if there are any 2.5.2 users still here, it seems the GLOBALS.php in the root folder (not the /include) was mangled badly by the forum files lock operation. I replaced it with the other copy and voila !
