I did. They were put everywhere.

If I put the image name in a browser, it showed the older (incorrect) ones. Yet if I opened the relevant area in the admin control panel, the newer images that I had uploaded showed there, as though there were some time lag.

I went offline for a few hours, and things were back to normal afterwards:

index.php?t=getfile&id=3122&private=0

I still have no idea how the forums can revert to images that were deleted five months ago, but at least they're back ... for now ...
