sorry for being silly but i cant get the zip file which the datadump produced on my server on to my pc so that i can upload it to a different server ( which is what i'm trying to do )

i used ws_ftp to move it back to my pc but then it started being wierd -- no data in it etc

what is the standard procedure to move the file from one server to another as i have to move host ?? Embarassed

You need to use the file manager to grant read access to the dump (chmod 644).

when i click the button to import the datadump the page gives the following error

part of that says that a

but actually all the tables were there before the import and the import actually erased them all and destroyed the forum --- nothing left but blank pages ---

can you help me ?? Crying or Very Sad

having major trouble with this -- any assistance would be of help -- if you can anwser quickly any of these questions

a) is the following info from the documention exactly the way i
need it
Quote:

cvs -z3 -d :pserver:anonymous(at)asuka(dot)prohost(dot)org:/forum21 checkout fud21_install

Once the files are retrieved, run the following commands to create the install script

cd fud21_install
chmod 644 install.php
chmod 755 create_file_list
./create_file_list install 1>> install.php

b) i cant determine which bit is the password, user name etc; could you break down the line
Quote:

cvs -z3 -d :pserver:anonymous(at)asuka(dot)prohost(dot)org:/forum21 checkout fud21_install
a bit

c) i chose to use wincvs - should this be ok -- maybe there is a simpler way seing as i only want to get the files not adjust them.

d) i dont realy understand the line
Quote:

run the following commands to create the install script

cd fud21_install
chmod 644 install.php
chmod 755 create_file_list
./create_file_list install 1>> install.php

the questions i have are:
+where do i run these - on my local computer?/ on my site somehow ?
+on what program do i run these -- somewhere in wincvs -- somewhere else ?
+where is the install.php file created ?

e) do i have to have anything else running on (my computer i'm presuming or whereever i do the creating of the .php file) like apache or php or anything.

The CVS instructions for Linux for win32 you need to make the following changes:

1) Checkout the CVS repository via WinCVS (or other win32 cvs client) login is anonymous, there is no password.
2) You do not need to run "chmod"
3) Go into the fud21_install directory that was created thanks to CVS checkout.
4) Instead of
./create_file_list install 1>> install.php

run
php.exe create_file_list install 1 >> install.php

If you do not zlib installed do not pass put 1 after install

ended up getting it through the cvs that runs using the command prompt ---

when i uploaded the update.php file there was something wrong with it

this is the error i got when i tried to use it
Quote:

Checking if SQL permissions to perform the upgrade are avaliable
Disable the forum
Forum is now disabled
Beginning the file upgrade process
Begining to decompress the archive
The upgrade script is missing the data archive, cannot run.

(also it seemed small 60k )

what i did to create it was:

a) did not alter the permissions at all as i am on a windowsXP machine and i dont think i can really ?

b) cd fud21_upgrade ( i presume the line cd fud21_install in the docs is a misprint )

c) made a copy of php.exe and put it into the fud21_upgrade directory

d) typed the line you gave me
Quote:

php.exe create_file_list install >> install.php
at the command prompt

e) uploaded the upgrade.php file that i found in the fud21_upgrade directory and ran the script

can you figure where i went wrong ??

Your install.php is so small because it is missing the archive bit. The ./create_file_list install 1>> install.php is what adds it.

For upgrade script use:

cvs -z3 -d :pserver:anonymous(at)asuka(dot)prohost(dot)org:/forum21 checkout fud21_upgrade

am getting
Quote:

Internal Server Error, this is an error with your script, check your error log for more information.

when i try to run upgrade.php on the old server --

i have tried getting the update.php from cvs using the new server and downloading it to my machine and then reuploading it to the server in question ( i dont have command line access on the old server - thus the long way around method)

i have also used cvsnt on my local machine to create a file which i uploaded to the old server

i get the internal server error with both methods

i thought zlib compression might have something to do with it so heres the details- both servers use zlib compression but my local machine doesn't

also i got this same problem before when the file didnt actually exist where i was instructing the browser to look for it the server gave that same error however i have verified the existance of the file upgrade.php correct directory/spelling etc

why am i getting this error ?

really the cvs method seems to work fine --- the exact same upgrade script that i downloaded works fine on the new server --- it just doesnt work on the old one --- so i dont think it's a problem with the cvs download or build -- it could be a problem with the script though.

I never tried the archive generation script on windows, so it is possible it may have issues on that OS.

ok well i upgraded the forum on the old server using the new rc9 download on the site -- having upgraded the new one via the rc9 from the cvs site --- so they are both rc9 --- i did a new datadump between them but i still get a similar error

(/home/oneweekofdays/www/FUDforum/include/theme/default/db.inc:133

EDIT

just to be on the safe side, i have since reinstalld ver2.6rc9 on the new server from the regular download available on the site -- so now both servers are running the same rc9 forum; however the error still persists:

Just imported the data dump you sent me without any problems.
The query failure you are getting implies that fud26_ses table does not exist (should've been created by importing of data).

The only possible reason I can see for this happening if the code that supposed to read the SQL queries from the dump fails to do so, which would fall inline with your previous comments about the destination forum lacking any SQL data.

You can check this by adding var_dump($i) before line 169 of admimport.php that'll print how many lines of SQL were imported.

am pretty confused here -- i have tried three different ftp programs and they all show the directories inside of the data root and server root as being empty -- yet the forum seems to function normally(rc9) - i checked and the table fud26_ses exists ( 9 fields i think ) and has a line of data in it.

obviously i cant adjust the file you mentioned as it isnt there --

maybe i'm mistaken but it looks to me that there is something else wrong here.

I think this is because you do not have permissions (the forum is locked) to view the contents of those directories. So the forum is showing them as empty. You need to use the "File Unlock" admin control panel to unlock the forum's files.

then i loaded the dump in .....

got the following

Actually is was very helpful, thank you.

int(0) means that not a single line of SQL was processed, now we just need to figure out why.

I am assuming you are trying to import the same datadump that you have sent me, which is compressed. Could you try doing the following:

gzip -d [data_dump_file].gz this will uncompress it creating [data_dump_file]. Then try importing the non-compressed file. I want to see if this is a zlib related problem or something more generic.

ok - just to clarify i did the following

reinstalled rc9 on the server
unzipped the file on the server( it ended up as before but with a .fud extension instead of a .fud.gz) - btw the old .gz file was deleted in the process i suppose this is expected
i didnt know whether you meant to add the extra line of code at 169 or not so i put it in anyway ( i can always do it again without it if needs be)
then i imported the .fud file ( i only give the path to the file btw in case this is a wrong practice on my part)
i got the same error

the start of it was
int(0)

didnt bother including the rest as it's the same as before i think.

am away for a few hours so i am pming you my ftp username and password in case you want to have a go

Ok, I got the account information and will try to import the datadump hopefully figuring out what is the problem...
I'll write a import script like script that will emulate the 'real' script and hopefully be affected by the same problem.

I'll let you know once I got any results.

I just tried importing the compressed datadump with a test script "admimpt.php" inside the forum/adm/ directory. It only differs from the "real" import script is that the user authentication is not performed.

Anyhow, the thing is that is has worked just fine with the uncompressed file and imported the data correctly. (you can try it for yourself if you like).

In fact the only bug that I found was with the query counter.
