We are just about ready to make the 1.9.8 release, which will be the last release before 1.9.9 at which point FUDforum 2 will enter a feature freeze.

So, if you have any suggestions for improvments, requests for new features etc... make'em now before its too late Smile

This request is only a minor thing that will take you about 15minutes (just a gues:D). It's the profile link, Please change it to 'user cp' and make the it come up with subscriptions on the left (about 70% of the page width) and the buddy list on the right (about 30% of the page width) on deafult.
Thanx Smile

Kinda like vbulletin. Wink
And could you arange the cell colors in the subscriptions like in a forum?
The forum could also use an email function: there is an email link under the post next to the 'PM' link, and if it is clicked, you are taken to a form that u use to email that user.
The forum could use some new smilies too, because they are the smilies from phpbb, and sadly some peeps (I won't mention their names) in wbb community have dissed fud about it. I'll make the totaly unique but apropriate, and hopefully have them ready for you tomorrow or the day after
Thanx.Smile

Changing "profile" to "User CP" makes sence to me.
Fixing the colors of the tables in user control panels will definately be done.
New smilies would definately be good Smile phpBB2 seems to have a rather large army or loyal monkees who don't bother to read GPL licence Wink, so new smilies should definately cut down on the noise on their part.

I have so much to say havent I? Laughing

Here is another:
Some peeps get anoyed with the avatar aproval, so could you please make a feature to disable that in the admincp? So if someone registeres, they just upload it or give a url and thats it. If anyone uses a bad avatar, that will just earn them an early bath in the banning suite for all I care Very Happy

Makes sence, won't make it into 1.9.8, but I will add this option.

I would like to see a text string stored in GLOBALS where I could put some html code to put a site specific header on the forum pages. Thanks.

You can already do this by simply modifying the header template (header.tmpl) with the template editor or any text editor. Smile
It is very simple to do.

I have an idea that would affect the handling of private forums. Currently u define the access with the group manager. So once a forum is restricted u still can see what it is about (because categories and "last post by" are shown). How about adding a simple private forum option which would once activated would show nothing more but the login prompt with the site's logo? I think this would be a useful feature, because even unexperienced users would soon get to a result. Besides, it's an good idea to make forums really private in the sense that no one has an idea what it is about. I could imagine this as an option u can choose in the Admin Control Panel when u set the properties of ur categories and forums. Another enhancement could be to extend the current ignore list to kind of a killfile. For instance u could not only filter login names but postings if they match to regular expressions u define. Makes sense if u want to ignore Anonymous troll postings.
Maybe I have some more ideas later on.

By making the forum hidden you will effectively hide the forum from view. Seeing the name of a forum or a last poster won't really disclose any meaningful info to the person who does not have access to the forum.

I'll see what it would take not to show forums & last post ids of the forums people do not have read access to.

One thing you've mentioned which is pretty interesting IMHO is to add the ability to ignore all anonymous posts. Currently that is impossible to do and I think it could be a most useful feature for a forum that allows anonymous posting.

As for filtering messages based on their content, that would require too much realtime regex on every message and quite frankly I do not belive that is a very meaningful feature.

We already have a "word filter" that would permit the admin to have certain words replaced if they find those words in appropriate. So there is a way to block certain words/expressions already.

Ok, these weren't really necessary features, I just thought of some other forums (guess which ones Wink) who offer this "simple" switch. The second item was inspired by newsgroups, who often suffer with useless troll posts. But u re right, I forgot that php regexp would slowdown performance, so after all it may not be that useful.

BTW, I tried to be unique, and some smilies look like they're from xmb, If you don't like tham, I'll try again Smile

Very nice & unique smilies Smile Great job...

I see you've also converted some message icons too Smile do go on hehe Smile

If you could convert the all FUDcode shortcuts to the ones you've made I'd definately use them.

Great job!

Ok!
I don't know if this could easily be done, but here goes:
Something that I would like to see included is a bit of code that one could put on another page (like a site's homepage) that would allow the display of a few lines from the most recent or most popular posts. This would really set FUD apart from the rest!

Also:
How about being having FUD keep track of the posts that a user hasn't read yet, like on vBulletin? We can view today's posts, etc., but I think it is more useful for the forum software to keep track in case you miss a few days worth of messages. Is there a way to do that now that I'm missing?.

Tom if you click on the "Unread Posts" you'll see ALL your unread posts. If you click on that link while in a forum, it'll show you all the unread posts for that forum.

This is a feature that was part of FUDforum since version 1.1

Tom, the other suggestion is something which is not really a part of a forum. You simply run a query and fetch recents topics from the forum's database.

The missing smilies are listed in hackie's message.

As for toolbar icons, could you re-design what I am guessing is the "quote" shortcut and also add a "spoiler", "supperscript" & "subscript" shortcut icons. The latter three do no exist in the current forum.

Thanks.

I don't know if this as been brought up, but what about an "auto prune" feature. Where you can set up a forum to drop postings after a given period?

There is a manual prune feature, I think an auto-prune feature would be a dangerous thing to have. Since a simple mis-configuration can cause in permanent loss of valuable data.

Of course you need to consider why are you prunning messages? Unlike in other board which had introduced the prunning feature, there are little to no performance gain achived by removing old messages.
