In my forum (2.3.7) when users type ' the forum prefaces these with escape chars like \' for example:

I can't come

renders as

I can\'t come

any ideas why?

Turn on magic_quotes_gpc.

According to my php settings, they are on:

Relavent PHP Settings:
Safe Mode: OFF
Display Errors: ON
File Uploads: ON
Magic Quotes: ON
Register Globals: OFF
Output Buffering: OFF
Disabled Functions: none
PSpell Support: No

This is indeed a forum bug, it has been fixed in CVS and the next release will be free of the problem.

I guess turning off magic quotes fixes it. So yeah it's gotta be how the forum handles magic quotes.
